Things not working in ASD 3.2.8

Postby Charlie » Tue Jul 20, 2010 6:29 pm

I got the update earlier today after not using the software for a while. I noticed that seller ratings aren't being displayed in the Seller column (I have that feature turned on but no rating is displayed). To verify, try adding item 290454523934. Also, when I am on a search results page, I can't add auctions anymore by right-clicking on the item links. I used to be able to do this (the popup menu included both Add and Snipe options previously).

Like I said, I haven't used the software in a while. Have these features been officially removed from the software? If so, the option to include seller ratings in the Seller column ought to be removed from the Options screen...

I have never before used the Seller column, with the "show ratings" (include feedback) box checked. However, I set that up, and you are certainly correct that it doesn't show that info. I have not heard of the feature being removed (and the check-box is certainly still there).

You know what to do about that, of course.

I also almost never used the ASD browser function to add items, so I'm not sure how it used to work. I did try it, and note that after opening an item in the browser, I can right-click on the "watch this item" link at the upper-right corner, and it offers the add and snipe options. But nothing works like that directly from the Search screen.

From the "My eBay" display, right-clicking on the item link (or the picture) does offer the ASD add and snipe options.

If some function has been removed, I do not know of any announcement about it.

I submitted a ticket. The submission form did tell me that the right-click "Add" menu problem is a known issue and they are working on it. I can't help but be skeptical as to how hard they are working on it.

Sorry for hijacking this thread but I've been out of the country the last month. If you guys can give me a quick heads up about this new version, before I take the plunge, I'd be very grateful.

...other than the bug that Charlie reported...

It seems to work OK, but you are required to re-enter your account information after the update runs.

@dalecoy

Thanks for the heads up!

I updated yesterday and so far so good. I don't really have any ebay-activity at the moment so I can't be 100% sure but if anything should go wrong you'll hear from me.

Every time I start ASD 3.2.8 I get the authentication error and have to restart and enter my userid and password.
Once I am in, I have to enter my eBay userid and password, because it does not remember any settings.
Can this darned program not be made to do such things?
The previous version 3.2.7 I had to install about 6 times before this finally worked, and I had to dig deep in the registry to remove "ASD" and its related "tedco" entries.
SLOPPY WORK, that makes me wonder if I should renew.

Did you submit a support ticket?

It sounds to me like you didn't "reset" the software - did you do that?

From another topic:
Sentry Todd wrote:Hello,

We will be releasing the newest version of our software for download and auto update soon (3.2.8 ). We want to make our users aware of a new process that will be included in that software. Upon installing 3.2.8, you will be asked to reset the software. You can bypass this process but doing so will prevent the software from validating and you will be asked each subsequent time you open the software to reset it until you do so. Once the software is reset it will function normally.

Good luck and good sniping!

Sincerely,

Todd K.

There was no question/option/mention of any "reset" for the software.
I started the program (then at 3.2.7), and a message was shown that an update was available. Since I had about 40 minutes until I wanted to snipe my item, I clicked on the update-button (?? can't remember what was shown). ASD downloaded and installed the new version. Had to enter ASD ID + PW, and ditto for eBay.
For one time I don't mind, but there should be an option EVERY start, asking if you want to save the userdata, until the user has confirmed (or something similar). Coming up with some reset-voodoo shows poor programming IMHO. (I was a mainframe programmer in Assembler and Cobol for over 30 years).
When I updated to 3.2.7 I had the same problems, opened a ticket, but ASD-help was underwhelming, to put it mildly. I had to fight my way through it myself.
Come on guys, take the finger out and program this stuff the way users expect this to work!

To me this sounds like you've had an incomplete registry entry for your 3.2.7 (your recap of how you dealt with the problems you had leads me to believe this) and this has caused the update to fail in some part (the Reset message not showing).

The easiest way out of this would (I believe) be to un-install AS and then download and install 3.2.8 once again.

Please let us know if this helps.

Sorry for the late response, was away college-checking for/with our daughter.
Today I started ASD 3.2.8, it came up with the usual "userdata invalid" stuff, then showed that 3.2.9 update was available. So I let it update.
When I then restarted in 3.2.9, the same crap as before about invalid userdata.
Following the above advice, I then completely uninstalled the program again, cleaned all the registry entries, downloaded 3.2.9 and installed it.
Lo and behold, it finally worked as it is supposed to, after I entered my userID and password only once.
